North Park Elementary

Principal Jeff Cacek had a vision to re-imagining the North Park media center space. He saw an underutilized space in his school and recognized the opportunity to transform it into a new learning environment for the second grade class. Together with Jeff and his second grade staff, we designed a new learning module that created variety, energy and encouraged creativity in the students as well as the teachers.

The installation took place over the summer when students were not in the building. Demountable, transparent and flexible walls were used to create additional teaching surfaces while maintaining an open and connected learning environment.

Summer Transformation

The design took place over a three day intensive workshop and together we analyzed design ideas in real time, utilizing three dimensional modeling techniques. Furniture played a significant role in the re-imagined media center, by defining zones to support the learning activities described by staff during the workshops.
