Metropolitan Community College- Advanced Manufacturing Institute

Kansas City, Missouri

Project Highlight

The Advanced Technical Skills Institute for Metropolitan Community College is an adaptive re-use of an old book binding manufacturing facility. The building opened in late Fall 2021 and relocated some programs from the college’s Business and Technology Campus to a location closer to the city and community, providing better access and visibility. It houses many of MCC’s manufacturing programs including, Welding, Industrial Technology, and Computer Integrated Machining and Manufacturing. Collaboration, shared resources, and future flexibility were prioritized during the layout of spaces and equipment to prepare students for the workforce. The renovation was organized around a “social spine,” where students could hang out, study, and socialize to create a sense of community and be able to see the other programs through strategically placed openings in the social space. This project was completed by Scott and Tyler prior to joining BNDRY.
